Enshrouded Server Options

Set Enshrouded server name, password, max players, game mode preset, auto update, and other server options on WinterNode.

Configure your Enshrouded server’s core settings including server name, password, player slots, and difficulty preset through the WinterNode Game Control Panel.

Server name

The name of your Enshrouded server as it appears in the server browser.

Server password

The password required for players to join your server. Leave blank for a public server.

Max players

The maximum number of players that can be connected at the same time. Enshrouded supports up to 16 players.

Auto update

Whether your server should check for and install game updates when it starts. Enabled by default.

Game settings preset

Controls the overall difficulty and gameplay balance. Available presets:

  • Default - Standard settings, recommended for first-time players
  • Relaxed - Fewer enemies, more resources, focused on building
  • Hard - More enemies with increased aggression
  • Survival - Additional survival mechanics on top of harder enemies
  • Custom - Unlocks individual gameplay settings in the config file

Advanced configuration

Settings beyond the Server Options tab can be edited directly in the enshrouded_server.json file using the File Manager or SFTP. This includes custom game settings (when using the Custom preset), voice chat options, and user group permissions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Auto Update is enabled by default. Stop and start your server and it pulls the latest game files automatically. If a patch doesn't apply, confirm Auto Update is on in Server Options, then restart again. If it still won't update, reinstall the server from Advanced > Server Actions.

Only if you need to stay on a specific version (for example, to keep working with a save that broke on a newer patch). Most players should leave it enabled. Disabling it means you have to manage versions manually.

Their game client needs to update to match the server. Have everyone install the latest patch through Steam and reconnect.
