Install mods on your Vintage Story server using the /moddb command or by uploading .zip files via SFTP. Both methods require a server restart to load the new mods.

Find the Mod You Want

  1. Go to the Vintage Story Mod Database
  2. Find the mod you want and note its exact name (shown in the URL or on the mod page)

Method 1: Install with the /moddb Command

Use this method to install mods one at a time directly from the mod database.

  1. Open the Console tab in your Game Panel, or join your server in-game
  2. Run the following command, replacing [modname] with the mod’s name:
    /moddb install [modname]
For example, the Floating Fish mod would be /moddb install floatingfish
  3. The server downloads the mod. You should see a confirmation message in the console
  4. Restart your server to load the new mod

If the command still doesn’t work, use Method 2 to upload the mod file directly.

Method 2: Install Manually via SFTP

Use this method to install multiple mods at once or when the /moddb command doesn’t recognize a mod.

  1. Download the mod’s .zip file from the Vintage Story Mod Database to your computer
  2. Connect to your server via SFTP
  3. Navigate to the data/Mods folder
  4. Upload the .zip file into data/Mods
  5. Restart your server to load the new mod

Verify the Mod Loaded

After restarting, your server should come back Online within 1-2 minutes. Players connecting to the server will be automatically prompted to download any required mods.

You can confirm the mod loaded by checking the console output during startup for a line listing the mod name.
