How Minecraft modpack hosting works

1 Pick your pack. Choose from the 343 packs below. Not listed? Order a server, open a ticket, and we'll install it for you, free.
2 Start with the recommended RAM. Every pack shows a starting RAM recommendation, and its order form pre-selects it. Pick a higher tier if you expect a larger group.
3 We install the pack. After checkout, your server is created and the pack's newest available server release installs on it, with Java set for its Minecraft version. When the install finishes, start the server from the Game Panel and accept the Minecraft EULA.
4 Back up before you switch. A server runs one pack at a time. Archive your server files before changing packs so you can switch back later. We also back up every server twice a day and keep backups for 45 days. Our Update or Switch guide walks through it.

Common questions about running a modpack server

Can I install a modpack that isn't in this list?

Yes. Every Minecraft server includes the Modpack Manager, which installs CurseForge packs from the Game Panel, and packs that aren't on CurseForge can be installed manually. Or open a ticket after you order and our team installs the pack for you, free. Our Modpack Installation guide covers both.

How much RAM does a modpack server need?

It depends on the pack. Each pack in the list shows a starting recommendation, from 4GB to 16GB across this catalog, and more players or a longer view distance need more. You can upgrade your RAM any time from your Client Area, and you only pay the prorated difference.

Do I need to set the Java version myself?

Not when you order a listed pack: we set Java for the pack's Minecraft version when your server is created. If you install or switch packs later with the Modpack Manager, set it yourself, because the wrong version crashes the server on startup. See Changing the Java Version.

Do my players need the modpack installed?

Yes. Players need the same pack and version as your server, or they'll get a connection error when they join. When you update the pack on your server, have everyone update their client to match.
