Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch have no Add Server button in Minecraft. To join your WinterNode Bedrock server from a console, use one of the two methods below.

Method 1: Join through a friend

Use this when someone is already on your server from a phone, PC, or Windows device. It is the fastest way in and needs no setup on the console.

  1. On a phone or PC, join your Bedrock server using Add External Server.
  2. Make sure that player is on your Friends list in Minecraft. Add them by their gamertag if they are not.
  3. On your console, open the Play screen and go to the Friends tab.
  4. Find your friend’s session and select Join.

You are now on the server as a normal player. You stay connected even if your friend leaves.

Method 2: BedrockConnect

BedrockConnect lets a console connect to any server through the Featured Servers list. You point your console’s DNS at a BedrockConnect address, then enter your server IP and port.

  1. Get the current DNS address from the BedrockConnect project.
  2. On your console, open your network DNS settings and set the Primary DNS to that address. Paths are listed below.
  3. Restart Minecraft.
  4. On the Play screen, open the Servers tab and select any server under Featured Servers.
  5. In the BedrockConnect menu that opens, choose to add a server, then enter your server IP and port.
  6. Select your server to connect.

Where DNS settings live:

  • Xbox: Settings > General > Network settings > Advanced settings > DNS settings > Manual
  • PlayStation: Settings > Network > Settings > your connection > Advanced Settings > DNS Settings > Manual
  • Nintendo Switch: System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings > your connection > Change Settings > DNS Settings > Manual

Playing on a Java server with cross-play?

If your server runs Java Edition with the Geyser plugin, console players still connect through BedrockConnect (Method 2 above). See the Geyser plugin guide for the server side of cross-play.

Frequently Asked Questions

Console versions of Minecraft (Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch) do not include the Add External Server option that phones and PCs have. You connect through a friend already on the server, or through BedrockConnect.

BedrockConnect is a free community project, not run by WinterNode or Mojang. It works by changing your console's DNS, so use an instance you trust or host your own. You can set your DNS back to Automatic when you are done.

Yes. A Dedicated IP lets you drop the port, but consoles still have no Add Server button, so you use one of the methods in this guide to enter the address.
