Change the name your Garry’s Mod server shows in the in-game server browser by setting the hostname value in server.cfg.
Set the Hostname in server.cfg
- Log in to the Game Control Panel and select your server
- In the sidebar, click File Manager
- Navigate to
garrysmod/cfg/ - Open
server.cfg - Find the
hostnameline (press CTRL+F to search) - Set it to your new name, keeping the double quotes:
hostname "My Awesome Server"- Click Save
- Click Restart on the Console page to apply the change
WinterNode GMod servers ship with a server.cfg that already includes a hostname line, so you normally only need to edit it. If the line or the file is ever missing, add it using the format above (create the file with New File if needed).
Your server should now show the new name in the in-game server browser. If the old name still appears, refresh the server list; the browser caches results.
Still Not Working?
If your server name still shows the default after a restart, contact our support team with:
- Your Server UUID
- The name you set in
server.cfg - What the server browser currently shows
