When you pay with PayPal, WinterNode creates a Billing Agreement with your PayPal account. This allows us to charge your PayPal automatically when invoices are due, similar to having a card on file.
What Happens When You Cancel Your Service
When you cancel your WinterNode service, all future billing stops automatically. You don’t need to cancel anything in PayPal. The Billing Agreement only charges when we send it an invoice, and we stop sending invoices when your service is canceled.
Legacy PayPal Subscriptions
Before Billing Agreements, WinterNode used PayPal Subscriptions. If you signed up several years ago, you may have a subscription instead of a billing agreement.
How to Tell Which You Have
- Billing Agreement: Shows as “WinterNode” under PayPal’s Automatic Payments with no set recurring amount
- Subscription: Shows a specific recurring amount (e.g., “$5.97/month”)
If You Have a Legacy Subscription
Subscriptions send payments on a fixed schedule regardless of whether you have an active service. If you cancel your WinterNode service but still have an active subscription, you’ll receive account credit for any payments sent after cancellation.
To cancel a legacy subscription:
- Log in to your PayPal account
- Click the gear icon, then go to Payments > Manage automatic payments
- Find WinterNode and click Cancel
