Hytale ships frequent updates in Early Access, and WinterNode’s Hytale downloader pulls the latest game files every time your server starts. Most updates apply by restarting the server; if that doesn’t work, a reinstall picks up everything cleanly.
Quick Update (Most of the Time)
This is all you need for routine patches.
- Log in to the Game Control Panel
- Select your Hytale server
- Click Stop and wait for the server to fully shut down
- Click Start
- Wait for the server status to show Online. This usually takes 1-2 minutes.
The downloader checks for new game files during startup and applies them automatically. Your world, mods, and configs are not touched.
If the Update Doesn’t Apply
If the server starts but stays on the old version, force a clean reinstall.
- Stop your server
- In the sidebar, navigate to Advanced > Server Actions
- Click Reinstall Server
- Confirm the reinstall when prompted
- Wait for the process to finish
- Click Start
A reinstall replaces the game binaries and re-runs the Hytale downloader from scratch. It does not delete your universe/ (worlds), mods/, or configuration files.
Verify the Version
After the server is back online:
- Open the Console in the Game Panel
- Look at the startup logs for the version line printed by the Hytale downloader
- Compare against the latest patch announced on the Hytale Blog
If the versions match, the update is done.
After a Major Update
Two follow-ups are worth doing after any sizable patch:
- Update Hytale on your PC and your players’ PCs. Clients older than the server can’t connect. Everyone needs the same patch installed through the Hytale launcher.
- Update your mods. Mods compiled against the previous version often fail to load until the author publishes an update. Open the Plugin Browser and click Check All Updates, or check each mod’s CurseForge page manually. See Installing Mods for manual uploads.
Still Not Working?
If a restart and a reinstall both leave you on the wrong version, contact our support team with:
- Your Server UUID
- The version your console reports
- The version you expected
- Any error lines from the downloader output

No. Restarting the server only refreshes the game files in the Server/ folder. Your world (universe/), mods (mods/), and configs stay where they are. We still recommend a backup before major patches in Early Access, since mods sometimes need a matching update.
Hytale is in Early Access. Hypixel Studios ships frequent patches, including five-part stable rollouts and out-of-band hotfixes. WinterNode tracks the official downloader, so as long as you restart your server you'll be on a current build.
Players need to update Hytale on their PC to match the server. If the client is older than the server, the client launches but can't join. Have everyone install the latest patch through the Hytale launcher and reconnect.
